The mission of the Department of Applied Engineering in the National University School of Engineering and Technology is to provide adult learners the opportunity to advance their education in the areas of engineering applications and become ethical practitioners and professionals. The department accomplishes this through programs established through partnerships with the community, industry and other academic institutions. 

National University's general education program is supplemented with courses that provide a solid foundation in chemistry, physics and mathematics. The upper-level division courses continue the development of the student's knowledge in engineering technology to prepare them for a career in engineering applications.

The undergraduate degrees available in this department include construction engineering technology, construction management, and design engineering. The available graduate degrees include engineering management, environmental engineering, homeland securing and safety engineering, systems engineering, and wireless communication.
