Course Description: Course focuses on simulation models built with MATLAB programming software that can serve as virtual laboratories for predicting the impact of system design changes for advanced digital communication systems.
Course Learning Outcomes:
  • Understand the role of simulation in communication systems engineering.
  • Understand the simulation approaches and methodologies.
  • Illustrate the signal and system representations, filter models, noise generation, Monte Carlo simulation, and postprocessing.
  • Interpret the advanced techniques for modeling and simulating nonlinear and time-varying systems.
  • Contrast the waveform level and discrete channel models.
  • Evaluate the performance estimation via Monte Carlo simulation.
  • Gain the semianalytic simulation techniques.
  • Understand the variance reduction techniques.
  • Determine the co-channel interference in wireless communication systems, and more.
Specified Program Learning Outcomes:
    • Build security into wireless communications systems and contrast ethical and legal issues in the global telecommunications industry.
    • Conduct research into a specific wireless communication topic, including finding and integrating relevant research results of others.
    • Create strategic analysis software and tools to develop wireless, networks and service plans.
    • Demonstrate critical thinking and ability to analyze and synthesize wireless communications concepts, project management principles, and ethical standards.
    • Develop simulation models of the radio components of wireless systems using MATLAB, SIMULINK and its communication tools.
    • Evaluate and select the appropriate kinds of coding and decoding schemes for constructing, detecting and filtering wireless communications signals.
    • Plan, integrate and implement multiple types of Second (2G) and Third Generation (3G) wireless networks.
