Student activity while the university is closed will not reflect active attendance. We hope you’ll take this time away from courses to rest and recharge.

Yes, all courses will have a two-week break, including DIS and CMP courses. Students should not upload any work to any courses during breaks.

Yes, but in varying or limited capacities. The Academic & Finance Advising Department will be available Dec. 22-24 and Jan. 2-3. The Academic & Finance Advising Department will be closed from Dec. 25 to Jan. 1. It is recommended that if you have questions requiring advisor support, you plan to address them with your advisor prior to winter break.
You will have access to the Academic Success Center, NU Library, Graduate Studies Support Center, and other academic resources—but live support will not be available.
Coaching sessions, research consultations, Alumni Navigators, and other live services will not be available. Please plan your requests for these services accordingly.
Yes, the NU catalog has been updated to reflect the 2025 break.
For students participating in a student internship course, you may have different scheduled breaks throughout the year. Please check with your internship supervisor to clarify the timing of those breaks.
Grades will be posted by Thursday, Jan. 8.
Institutional Review Board FAQs
Yes, the IRB will be closed during all university holidays and breaks. Please plan ahead as this may result in processing delays for your submissions. For week-long breaks, expect delays of up to three weeks. Be sure to submit your applications well in advance to accommodate these closures.
We strongly encourage you to schedule and attend the group writing sessions well in advance of the closures. This preparation will help you create the best possible application. Additionally, we recommend attending office hours for any IRB-related questions.
No, there won’t be any writing sessions available during the break. However, we offer a variety of webinars that review group writing sessions. We also have content on how to set up your IRB Manager account and CITI training available on our website.
While we encourage you to use the breaks as an opportunity to rest and recharge, you may also find it useful to focus on your submission. Please visit the IRB website, which provides guidance based on where you are in your dissertation process and the best resources to review.
Yes, you may still submit to the IRB during the break, but please be aware that there will be a delay. The IRB will assign submitted applications to members after classes resume on Jan. 5, 2026. Please allow up to three extra weeks for the review of your submission after each multi-day break, depending on the number of applications submitted.
You may submit a Study Closure Form at any time—no direct communication with the IRB is required to complete this action.
