Ms. Linda Macomber

Linda Travis Macomber is Program Director for the MS Health Informatics and a Clinical Assistant Professor at National University. For the past 35 years, Professor Macomber has pioneered and specialized in health informatics, electronic health records, and decision support. Since founding the new graduate program in 2010, she has developed curriculum, coordinated faculty, led the Health Innovation Technology Center of Excellence, taught and advised students in emerging practices in health IT, served on university committees, and created a health tech discovery lab.

Prior to academia, her career focused on healthcare delivery, consulting nationally and globally, and working with health technology developers. She contributed to trailblazing initiatives including: leading a requirements team for what has growth to become Kaiser Permanente•s HealthConnect System, winning the billion-dollar Department of Defense Composite Health Care System (CHCS) award, developing workflows for technology used in the Executive Health Clinic for our nation•s leaders in Bethesda, and Chairing the national HIMSS Davies Award for EHR Excellence. She has consulted with IBM, SAIC (now Leidos), Healthlink, Genentech, Anvita Health, the University of California, Children•s hospitals, Community Clinics, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology, and multiple startups. A frequently invited speaker at national and international conferences over 4 decades, her health and tech career has taken her to all 50 states and 5 continents. Highlights include Helsinki Finland, Meditech South Africa, TEPR, ANIA, the NIH, NCI, MUSE, and Claremont Graduate University, and many HIMSS annual and Southern California meetings.

Beginning her career as a pediatric RN and ICU nurse at Boston Children•s Hospital, she earned her BSN from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and her MBA from Northeastern University in Boston. Current research interests include personal health informatics, health decision support, telehealth, and her health tech discovery lab.
