On ESPN LA’s Mason & Ireland, National University President and CEO Dr. Mark D. Milliron joins U.S. Navy veteran and NU alumnus Kristian Estrada for a special Veterans Day conversation about NU’s roots and mission. Dr. Milliron shares how National University, founded more than 50 years ago by Navy Capt. David Chigos, is built to serve nontraditional, working, and military learners through flexible four- and eight-week course formats and online and hybrid options. Today, NU serves more than 50,000 students annually, with about half of its undergraduate population made up of active-duty service members, veterans, and their families.
Estrada describes how NU’s flexible model allows them to balance military service, family life, and academics and how the university helps “ANDers™,” students who are learners and parents, and employees, and service members. Dr. Milliron emphasizes that at NU, the hardest part should be the learning, not the bureaucracy, and that the institution uses every tool, technology, policy, and practice, to help students “learn well, finish strong, and launch effectively” into their next chapter.
