Contemporary Social Problems
Course Description
Uses the functionalist, conflict and interactionist perspectives, this course explains how human conditions come to be perceived as social problems, and how to evaluate their proposed solutions.
Learning Outcomes
- Discuss the concept of what is a social problem and its various dimensions.
- Discuss social problems in concept and specific terms from the dominant theoretical perspectives.
- Make connections between the micro and macro aspects of social problems, their causes and effects.
- Apply an understanding of social problems to individual, familial, occupational and institutional realms in which the student functions.
