Cinematic Design
Course Description
This seminar covers the application of visual aesthetic theory in the design of contemporary cinema and visual communication. Topics include the physiological and psychological basis of visual design such as perception of light and color, and the use of compositional elements and principles of cinematic design to construct meaning in film.
Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate, identify and apply the cinematic design principles of composition, space, affinity, contrast, color, and movement as well as visual progression and rhythm.
- Evaluate the visual cinematic design elements used in films, videos, television and other narrative forms of motion picture production for their contribution to narrative structure in a variety of film genre.
- Evaluate the visual cinematic design principles and their effect on the construction of meaning in film and video programs.
- Generate cinematic sequences using digital media that demonstrates the effective application of the principles and elements of visual cinematic design
