Crime and the Media

Course Description

Explore the complex relationship between media and the criminal justice system. Gain understanding of how media influences both public opinion and the criminal justice system.

Learning Outcomes

  • Examine the social construction of crime-and-justice reality and the media’s role in the construction process.
  • Explore the varied aspects of the relationship between the media, crime, and justice.
  • Assess the mass media’s effects on crime and justice.
  • Demonstrate the critical relationship between the media, crime, and justice.

Requirements

Students are required to satisfactorily complete all work in this class. Assignments include midterm and final exams, discussion board questions, seminars, and a research paper.
