Dr. Ellen Kaye Kaye GehrkeProfessor School of Health and Human Services
Ellen Kaye Gehrke Ph.D. is a professor of Community Health in the School of Health and Human Services at National University. She has over 25 years experience working as an organizational consultant, trainer, and advisor for numerous companies. Her work with people and human systems spans the private and public sector, universities and international organizations in the USA and several European countries. Dr. Kaye Gehrke works with individuals, groups and teams as a consultant, trainer and coach to improve individual and organizational performance. She has a Ph.D. in organizational development and strategic planning from the George Washington University, an M.B.A. in marketing and management from National Univeristy and a B.Sc. in wildlife biology and natural resource management from the University of California Berkeley. While in DC, Dr. Kaye worked in corporate planning and evaluation at the American National Red Cross in Washington, DC and conducted research on the ARC Blood Services regarding quality, effectiveness and service.
Dr. Kaye lived and worked in Europe for more than eight years teaching at several Universities and consulting to eastern European countries helping to resolve the social and economic challenges that resulted from massive privatization and the transition from centrally planned to market driven economies. She spent several years on the staff at the European Foundation for Management Development (efmd) in Belgium as Director of European Business schools and Research. She is trained in the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, The Intercultural Development Inventory(IDI), is a licensed 1:1 provider and a Qualified Instructor provider (QIP) for the Institute of HeartMath and has served as an executive coach for the Marshall Goldsmith Group. In addition, she also worked for the Center for Creative Leadership as a feedback coach in their leadership development programs integrating assessments such as FIRO-B, MBTI, and the CPI. She is also Healing Touch Level for Animals certified, Healing Touch for Humans Level III qualified and Emotional Freedom Technique Level I certified.
She is an associate of The Thiagi Group, an interactive training and educational corporation as well as offering her own programs through Rolling Horse Ranch on Energetic Awareness and Developing Coherent Leadership in Partnership with Horses. She is currently working with UCSD Medical School -co teaching a course in Skills for Relationship Centered Care- where the focus is on improving doctor-patient relationships. The students come to her ranch and work in partnership with horses to develop greater capacity for empathy, compassion and diagnotic clarity. Much of her research is directed at improving relationships by studying Heart Rate Variability between horses and humans.
When she is not at National University, she lives on a small horse ranch in Ramona with her horses, dogs, cats and her husband, Carsten, a computer systems consultant, who she met while working in Munich.
