On San Diego’s Morning News with Ted and LaDona, National University President Dr. Mark D. Milliron shares the story behind the university’s new anthem, a song created by renowned music industry professionals to celebrate the diversity and determination of NU’s students. Founded in San Diego more than 50 years ago by Navy Captain David Chigos, National University continues to serve nontraditional learners, including working adults, parents, and members of the military, through flexible, career-aligned education models.
Dr. Milliron explains that the anthem reflects the spirit of NU’s “ANDers™”, students who balance education and parenting, and full-time work, and service to their country. “Most college students today don’t fit the traditional mold,” he says. “Our anthem shines a light on the hardworking learners who make up the majority of higher education, those building their futures while leading full, complex lives.” The song serves as a tribute to their resilience and as a reminder of National University’s mission to meet students where they are.
