Public Policy
Course Description
An introduction to the public policy process in the United States, theory and practice of process of formulating public policy, why some problems reach the public agenda and why others are rejected, examination of policy making at the national, state and local level, and public policy in foreign political systems.
Learning Outcomes
- Effectively employ divergent models of policy analysis and evaluation.
- Identify the major policy making institutions and how they interact through the federal system of public authority and policy implementation.
- Define basic political economy concepts related to public policy and collective political action.
- Identify and contrast the major issues involved in such policy areas as economic regulation, income support, energy, environment, health care, education, immigration and civil rights.
