Your Path to Becoming a Licensed California Attorney
As you progress through law school, you’ll complete several important milestones on your way to becoming a licensed attorney in California:
Register with the State Bar of California as a law student.
Register with the State Bar of California as a law student.
Complete the Moral Character Application during your final year of law school.
Apply for the California Bar Exam during your final semester.

California is transitioning to the NextGen Bar Exam, but our commitment remains the same: preparing every NU Navigator for success on the California Bar Exam.

Starting 2028
NextGen Bar Exam
Beginning in July 2028, California will transition to the NextGen Bar Exam, with a California-specific component expected to be added in July 2029. We will continue to monitor the transition and provide updates as new information becomes available.
