Better Together: California Teachers Summit is free and will take place July 31 at the San Diego Town & Country Convention Center

San Diego, Calif. – July 9, 2015National University, which recommends more teachers for credentials than any other university in California, will co-host Better Together: California Teachers Summit in San Diego on July 31. This first-of-its kind event led by teachers, for teachers is expected to draw 20,000 teachers at 33 locations across the state, including San Diego’s Town & Country Convention Center. The free summit is designed to help teachers build a powerful network of peers, share best practices and access effective resources to implement the new California Standards.

Better Together: California Teachers Summit will feature nationally renowned keynote speakers, small group discussions and “Ed Talks” from teachers who will offer funny, inspiring, and poignant perspectives about their successes with implementation of the new California Standards. Teachers will come away with concrete tools and strategies they can use in the classroom and a network of colleagues from their home region to support future collaboration.

“We are extremely pleased to be part of this incredible forum for teachers to share inspiring and impactful approaches in the classroom that are based on the latest state educational standards,” said Dr. Judy Mantle, Dean of the School of Education at National University. “Supporting the educator community is so important to ensure student success, and we look forward to bringing together teachers and school administrators for an exciting day of learning and collaboration.”

As the second-largest private nonprofit university in California, National University has a strong tradition in teacher training and education and is also among the top five universities nationwide in terms of numbers of master’s degrees in education conferred annually. National University is co-hosting the San Diego event – just one of two sites south of Irvine — with Point Loma Nazarene University.

New Teacher Center, the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU) and California State University (CSU) are partnering with a wide range of California education groups to organize this unprecedented event. Registration information is available at: http://cateacherssummit.com/.

Separately, but immediately after the event, participants are invited to learn more about the K-12 Sanford Education Programs that National University is introducing nationally in collaboration with universities around the country and in coordination with regional schools and school districts. The two initiatives – Sanford Harmony and Sanford Inspire – are research-based programs initially developed at Arizona State University to enhance the classroom environment. Through the application of tools and strategies, such as social emotional learning approaches, the initiatives encourage inspiring teaching and harmonious classroom environments that emphasize student achievement as well as collaboration, communication and respect among students.
