San Diego, Calif. – National University, the second-largest private, nonprofit university in California, conferred more master’s degrees in education to minority students than any other college or university in California during the 2011-2012 academic year, according to figures released by Diverse Issues in Higher Education magazine in its annual “Top 100” list.
Diverse Issues’ rankings are based on analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Education.
National University ranked first in the state in granting master’s degrees in education to minorities in four categories, including overall, Hispanics, African Americans and Native Americans. According to the 15th annual report on state teacher supply issued earlier this year by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), National University prepared more teachers for their single-subject, multiple-subject, and education specialist teaching credentials than any other single institution in the state during the 2011-2012 academic year, marking the 13th consecutive year that National has led the state in preparing credentialed teachers.
According to Diverse Issues’ “Top 100” report, National University also was first in California in granting master’s degrees in psychology to Hispanics, African Americans and Native Americans.

Nationally, National University was third in the nation in granting master’s degrees in education to Hispanics and fifth in the United States in granting master’s degrees in education to all minority students. Overall, National University was 16th in the nation in granting master’s degrees in all disciplines combined to minority students.
