2004-06-23 National University to Offer New Program in Homeland Security and Safety Engineering

La Jolla, Calif. – National University’s School of Engineering and Technology is offering a new Master of Science degree in homeland security and safety engineering. The curriculum has been designed to prepare graduates for certification by the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).

The events of September 11, 2001 have increased regional, national and international demand for highly educated and experienced professionals in the area of security and safety engineering. National University’s new program emphasizes the fundamentals of asset and people protection. It takes an interdisciplinary approach to research and application from various fields of engineering and science.

Graduates of the program will receive the knowledge and preparation necessary to obtain the following two well-known external certifications: (1) the ASIS Certified Protection Professional exam; and (2) the ASSE Certified Safety Professional exam.

The homeland security and safety engineering program is targeted toward homeland security specialists, loss prevention specialists, safety engineers and security consultants, as well as security department managers and directors and law enforcement officials.

National University’s School of Engineering and Technology was founded in July 2002 upon the recommendation of a university task force charged with identifying innovative, market-appropriate programs relevant to California’s economy. National University currently offers Bachelor of Science degrees in computer science and software engineering, as well as Master of Science degrees in computer science, environmental engineering, software engineering and wireless communications.
