University’s educational partnerships demonstrate commitment to communities served by University throughout its network of California and Nevada campuses

San Diego, Calif. – March 12, 2015 – National University, the second-largest private, nonprofit university in California, has entered an agreement with the County of Sacramento to provide educational and scholarship opportunities to the County’s approximately 11,000 employees. The collaboration reflects National University’s commitment to developing educational partnerships with the public sector and other entities that serve the public good.

“We are extremely pleased to be offering our Sacramento County employees access to educational opportunities through this agreement with National University,” said David Devine, Director of the Department of Personnel Services with the County of Sacramento. “This agreement will be beneficial to their professional development and contribute to the delivery of services to our community.”

National University, which has campuses throughout California – including at Rancho Cordova in the Sacramento area, Bakersfield and Fresno – has entered into similar agreements with entities around the state. The University’s educational agreement with the City of San Diego and the County of San Diego provide educational opportunities for their combined 26,000 employees. The University also established a recent agreement with the County of Tulare in the Central Valley, which has 5,000 employees. The agreements provide public sector employees access to a quality education through a National University scholarship that is the equivalent of a 15 percent tuition reduction.

“The City of Rancho Cordova is extremely proud to have National University call Rancho Cordova its home,” said Rancho Cordova Mayor Robert McGarvey. “National University provides tremendous academic and professional opportunities for our community and citizens throughout the region. Their recent agreement with Sacramento County exemplifies National University’s commitment to promoting local and regional professional development and improving our quality of life.”

National University, with campuses from San Diego to the south to Redding in the north, has been an educational leader in California with many notable alumni currently serving the public sector and other high-profile organizations. In the Sacramento area, alumni have served as Presidents of the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce and the Sacramento Area Animal Coalition. Alumni also include four recent Sacramento “Teacher of the Year” recipients; a Placer County “Superintendent of the Year” and a Governor appointee to the California Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission.

“As a private nonprofit university dedicated to the public good, we are committed to supporting our communities throughout the state of California,” said National University President Dr. Michael R. Cunningham. “We are proud to be providing Sacramento County employees with access to an affordable, quality education through an education at National University that benefits us all by strengthening our communities at large.”
