National University Marketing Professor Michael Becker Receives National Award for Education Leadership Contributions

Mr. Becker, Co-Founder and Managing Partner for Global Mobile Strategy and Education Marketing Company, mCordis, and Professor of Mobile Marketing at National University, is being recognized for leadership as entrepreneur, evangelist and educator

 San Diego, Calif. – Oct. 21, 2014 – Michael Becker, a Professor of Mobile Marketing at National University, has been named the 2014 recipient of the Marketing Edge Edward N. Mayer Jr. Education Leadership Award. Mr. Becker was recognized for his instrumental role in the growth of the mobile marketing field and for his tireless efforts educating students, professionals and consumers on marketing best practices. Becker, who will formally accept the national award Oct. 25 in San Diego, teaches in the School of Business and Management at National University, the 2nd largest private, nonprofit university in California.

Mr. Becker, co-founder and managing partner for mCordis, a global mobile marketing strategy and educational services company, is a published author and has served on numerous boards dedicated to the marketing profession. The Edward N. Mayer Jr. Education Leadership Award is given by the New York City-based nonprofit organization Marketing EDGE (formerly Direct Marketing Educational Foundation – DMEF), a national organization committed to introducing college students to the thriving profession of marketing.

Recognized as an entrepreneur, evangelist and educator, Mr. Becker is a long-time advocate for responsible mobile marketing worldwide. At National University, Mr. Becker creates content and teaches online courses leading to degrees, such as the MBA with a Specialization in Mobile Marketing and Social Media, and provides workshops and certificate opportunities for lifelong learners.

In addition to his role at mCordis, Mr. Becker is a strategic advisor and board member to many firms, including the Assurant Solutions, Shopper Army, FunMobility, Somo and Privowny. He was one of the pioneers of the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA), serving on its board from 2004 to 2014 and acting as its Managing Director in North America for three years (2010-2013). Prior to and while serving at the Mobile Marketing Association, Mr. Becker worked cooperatively with the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), the Direct Marketing Association and Association of National Advertisers on self-regulatory ethical guidelines for business conduct, governing email, SMS and MMS, and related mobile marketing communication services.

Mr. Becker is also the author of a number of articles and books and has delivered hundreds of mobile marketing educational workshops, seminars, keynotes and panels throughout the world. Most recently he released “Mobile Marketing Fundamentals,” an online video tutorial with Lynda.com and co-authored Mobile Marketing for Dummies. He founded the MMA International Journal of Mobile Marketing, which released 18 issues and nearly 200 articles between 2005 and 2014.
