National University is one of a few regionally accredited paralegal schools offering a bachelor's degree in Southern California. The program is one of the first baccalaureate degree programs in the nation to prepare students for the paralegal profession.

Admission Procedures

  • High school graduates must have a GPA of 2.0.
  • Applicants who have completed fewer than 90 quarter (60 semester) units of transferable college credit must have graduated from high school or passed the G.E.D.
  • High school graduates transferring from regionally accredited colleges are admitted if their cumulative GPA is 2.0 or better. Applicants with a GPA below 2.0 may be admitted on probation.

What is a Paralegal?

The terms "paralegal" and "legal assistant" are used interchangeably. "Paralegal" means a person who either contracts with or is employed by an attorney, law firm, corporation, governmental agency, or other entity and who performs substantial legal work under the direction and supervision of an active member of the State Bar of California, as defined in Section 6060, or an attorney practicing law in the federal courts of this state, that has been specifically delegated by the attorney to him or her.

This program prepares students to work as a paralegal.  "No person shall practice law in California unless the person is an active member of the State Bar". California Business and Professions Code Section 6125.
