Recognition

National University frequently submits its personnel, processes, and publications for external review and evaluation. Following is some of the prominent recognition the University has received.

The 2012 Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Circle of Excellence competition recognized National University with the following awards:

In 2010, National University was named one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education. The results, released in The Chronicle’s third annual report on The Academic Workplace, are based on a survey of more than 42,000 employees at 277 colleges and universities.

National University was selected by G.I. Jobs magazine as a “Military Friendly School for 2011.” The honor places National University in the top 15 percent of all schools nationwide.

National University received four awards in the 25th Annual Educational Advertising Awards in February 2010, including:

  • Gold Award in the Video Viewbook category for The Chancellor’s Orientation
  • Gold Award in the Annual Report category for the 2009 National University Annual Report
  • Silver Award in the Internal Publication category for Network
  • Bronze Award in the Television Single Spot category for the “We Are One” spot

National University was named one of America’s Top Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities in 2010 by Military Advanced Education magazine.

National University was ranked in the top 20 of accredited colleges and universities which offer online programs according to the 2009 Online Education Database.

The 2009 Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Circle of Excellence competition awarded a bronze medal in the Individual Institutional Relations Publications category for National University 2008 Annual Report.

In 2009, National University received two awards from Admissions Marketing Report magazine’s 24th Annual Admissions Advertising Awards. NU’s 2008 Annual Report earned a Gold award, and a Bronze awarded was awarded for National University “Degree of Excellence” ad series.

At the 2008 CASE Circle of Excellence competition, National University won a silver medal in the Web-Based or Electronic External Audience Periodicals category for the Center for Integrative Health’s electronic health and wellness magazine, iTHRIVE.

At the 2008 CASE District VII Awards of Excellence competition, National University won three gold medals, two silver, and two bronze. The golds were for National University “Degree of Excellence” series of ads, National University’s “Call of Conscience” event poster, and National Polytechnic College of Science (NPCS) Recruitment Video. Silver medals were given for National University “Hollywood’s Africa” event poster and the NPCS television commercial. The bronze medals were for National University recruitment video, and the iTHRIVE electronic magazine.

At the 2008 League of American Communications Professionals’ Vision Awards Annual Report Competition, the 2007 National University Annual Report earned a Platinum Award.

The 2007 Annual Report also won an Award of Excellence from the 2008 Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) competition.

At the 2008 League of American Communications Professionals’ Spotlight Awards, National University “An Introduction” DVD self-mailer received a Gold award and was named one of the Top 100 Communications Materials of 2008.

In the Printing Industries of America’s 2008 Premier Print Awards, National University “An Introduction” DVD self-mailer earned a Certificate of Merit.

National University has hosted the International Computer Science and Technology Conference (formerly known as the International Conference on Computer Science and its Applications) for five straight years.

In 2007, National University received three Emmys from National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for its “One University” television commercial, which was produced under the direction of the Chancellor’s office, National University Communications Group, and Scratch Media. One award was for the entire commercial, the second for the photography, and the third for the writing.

In 2006, National University earned an Emmy award from National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Pacific Southwest Chapter, in the category of Direction Pre-Produced Spot. The Emmy was for the University’s 2005 television commercial campaign featuring five spots entitled Quality, Affordability, Simple Notion, Non Profit and Attitude. A Corporate Technology Hero 2006 Golden Mouse Award from the Technology Training Foundation of America in recognition of National University’s “generous computer equipment donations that are helping prepare students for the challenges in our technological world.”

At the 2006 CASE District VII Award of Excellence Competition, National received one silver and three bronze medals. The silver was for the San Diego Six logo, while the bronze medals were for the “Attributes” print advertisement campaign, the ITHRIVE electronic newsletter, and the former Institute for Wellness and Peak Performance site.

At the 2007 League of American Communications Professionals (LACP) Vision Awards Annual Report Competition, the 2006 National University Annual Report earned a Platinum Award.

At the 2006 League of American Communications Professionals (LACP) Vision Awards Annual Report Competition, the 2005 National University Annual Report earned a Platinum Award.

The 2005 Annual Report also earned a Silver Award at the University & College Designers Association (UCDA) 36th Annual Design Competition. National University video earned an Award of Excellence at the UCDA competition.

The Spectrum Business Park Campus and Library were chosen for a 2007 Tilt-Up Achievement Award by the Tilt-Up Concrete Association.

The University also received a Diversity Spirit Achievement Awards at the 2006 Diversity Employment Day.

National also was the only college or university named as one of San Diego’s Best Employers in 2005 by the San Diego Human Resources Association and the San Diego Union-Tribune. The University also was named one of San Diego’s Best Workplaces in 2006 by the Employers Group and San Diego Magazine.

In 2005, National’s Sacramento Campus received a 2005 Sacramento Workplace Excellence Leader Award as well as a Black Chamber of Commerce President’s Award.

Also in 2005, National University was honored with a Classroom of the Future Award for Innovations in Education, as well as a WomenTogether Angel Award for “ongoing partnership, generosity and commitment to helping homeless and battered women and their children in need.”

In 2005, National University was invited to be one of six institutions of higher education featured in the book Quality and Performance Excellence in Higher Education: Baldrige on Campus.

In 2002, National was the first university since 1996 to be recognized with a Eureka (“Baby Baldrige”) Award by the California Council for Excellence.

In 2003, National received its second Eureka Award – the only institution of higher education to be recognized.

The University also received an Honorable Mention Award from the California Council for Excellence for participating in the California Team Excellence Award “Live” Competition.
