Dr. Jamie Manburg Named Director of Sanford Inspire at National University

San Diego, Calif. — Longtime educational leader, Dr. Jamie Manburg, has been appointed director of Sanford Inspire at National University, a PK-12 education initiative that empowers educators around the country to create inspiring classroom experiences. National University, which has one of the top 10 largest schools of education in the country, is leading the national expansion of the program.

“Sanford Inspire is such a remarkable and valuable resource for teachers and educators around the country, and Dr. Manburg has clearly demonstrated an unwavering dedication and expertise of this important initiative,” said Dr. Michael R. Cunningham, Chancellor of the National University System. “We are very pleased to welcome him to San Diego as he further expands Sanford Inspire in collaboration with schools and universities around the country.”

Dr. Manburg joined National University this month from Nova Southeastern University, where he served as associate dean of assessment, scholarship and undergraduate programs. Nova Southeastern University, a private nonprofit research institution based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is part of the Sanford Education Collaborative, a group of universities led by National University that share a dedication to innovative educational initiatives. At Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Manburg oversaw the expansion of Sanford Inspire in the Southern and Eastern Florida region.

Sanford Inspire provides teachers with no-cost, on-demand video and online module training, as well as other professional development resources, to create inspiring classroom environments that motivate students to succeed. Sanford Inspire also provides a national framework for ongoing assessment and sharing of research-based inspiring teaching strategies and methodologies.

“I am honored to be joining the National University System and to support Sanford Inspire,” said Dr. Manburg. “This is a tremendous opportunity to be leading a nationwide initiative to provide teachers with critically needed resources to support the inspiration of a new generation of students to achieve their greatest potential.”

At Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Manburg and the faculty integrated Sanford Inspire curriculum into 18 bachelor of science in education undergraduate courses beginning in the fall of 2015. Faculty assessments and feedback led to the subsequent Sanford Inspire integration into master of science degree courses the following winter. Additionally, Dr. Manburg and his colleagues supported the professional development of middle school teachers using Sanford Inspire on-demand module curriculum.

Written by faculty and teachers, the Sanford Inspire on-demand video modules are available as resources for schools of education as well as in-service teachers and their schools. Available at no cost, the modules usually take less than one hour to address specific topics that are relevant to newer teachers, such as “Understanding the Causes of Student Misbehavior” or “Addressing Bullying Behavior,” and topics that are also pertinent to experienced teachers, such as “Culturally Responsive Pedagogy” and “Problem Based Learning.”

Dr. Manburg has served in a number of leadership positions at Nova Southeastern University’s Abraham S. Fischler College of Education over the past 16 years, including associate dean of undergraduate studies, dean of undergraduate teacher education, executive director of student success and retention and associate dean for assessment, scholarship and undergraduate programs. He earned his bachelor of science in secondary education, his master of science in management information systems and his doctorate of education in instructional technology and distance education from Nova Southeastern University.

He currently serves on a number of professional boards, including the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, the United States Distance Learning Association, the International Bullying Association and the Broward County Public Schools’ Partners in Education. In addition, he has been a featured speaker and panelist at educational conferences across the country.
