Fiction Workshop
Course Description
An advanced course in writing fiction. Students will analyze sophisticated principles of fiction writing, evaluating different strategies for successful fiction, including non-traditional approaches. Students will write and revise advanced level original work, and provide rigorous feedback for their peers in a workshop setting.
Learning Outcomes
- Develop an original fictional voice.
- Effectively apply a sophisticated and informed understanding of elements of fiction to the process of revision.
- Produce a polished original short story or chapter of a novel.
- Effectively apply a sophisticated and informed understanding of elements of fiction to analyze the work of others and provide useful critical suggestions for improving that work.
Requirements
Two drafts of a 15-20 page story or novel excerpt, Workshop critiques, Writing exercises, Reading/writing journal.
