Poetry Writing II
An intermediate workshop in poetry. Students will compose their own original poems and continue the study of the craft of poetry, focusing on the modern tradition.
- Identify important developments and trends in contemporary poetry.
- Analyze various forms of contemporary poetry.
- Apply principles of poetic craft to the writing and revision of original compositions with increased sophistication.
- Critique the creative work of others with increased sophistication.
Produce (i.e., draft and revise) at least one poem per week. Provide constructive critical suggestions on peers’ work. A reflective paper regarding their application of craft principles and growth as a writer.
