|Course Description: Participants in this course learn how to increase student achievement by improving the match between the learner’s unique characteristics and various curriculum components; how differentiation involves changes in the depth or breadth of student learning; and how differentiation is enhances through the use of appropriate classroom management, pre-testing, flexible small groups, tiered assignments, target teaching, and the availability of appropriate resources.
|Course Learning Outcomes:
- State the philosophical basis for standards- based differentiated Instruction.
- Identify and implement standards-based Best Practice instructional strategies for differentiated instruction.
- Identify and implement the components of differentiated instruction modifying content, (Teach) process (Practice) and product (Apply) to meet the needs of diverse learners and provide access to the core curriculum.
- Identify and implement a repertoire of Best Practice strategies to differentiate instruction by readiness level, interest and learning modalities.
- Identify and implement a repertoire of Best Practice strategies to differentiate instruction for English language learners.
- State the philosophical basis for aligning standards-based instruction with standards-based informal and formal assessment.
- Identify and implement differentiated grouping patterns including Team Leaders for targeted instruction.
- Identify and implement both informal and formal standards-based assessments for targeted differentiated instruction.
- Identify and implement classroom management strategies that facilitate differentiated instruction.

Plagiarism is the presentation of someone else's ideas or work as one's own. Students must give credit for any information that is not either the result of original research or common knowledge. Ethical behavior in the classroom is required of every student. The course will identify ethical policies and practices relevant to course topics.
Students are expected to be competent in using current technology appropriate for this discipline. Such technology may include word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Use of the internet and e-mail may also be required.
