MDC651P Cinematography Practicum

Course Description

In this independent "studio practicum" taken concurrently with MDC 651, students apply cinematic techniques and theory using digital still and video cameras based on practical assignments developed by the instructor. Practical assignments will receive individual and peer critiques.

  • The technical and cinematic principles of composition and optics
  • The technical and cinematic principles of lighting
  • The fundamental characteristics of video including exposure, white balance and shutter speed
  • The standards of narrative cinematography including lighting, exposure, composition, lens selection, subject and camera movement to cinematically support the visual elements of story based on a given script
