Basics of Curriculum

Course Description

Introduction to the knowledge and skills related to appropriate curriculum and environments for young children. Emphasis is on the role of the teacher in supporting development and fostering learning through use of effective strategies across content areas. Content areas include: Literacy, Social/Emotional development, Sensory learning, Math and Science.

Learning Outcomes

• Identify the range of developmentally appropriate practices that support young children’s learning across content.
• Demonstrate understanding of best and promising early childhood teaching practices through the development of content specific as well as integrated lesson plans that support inclusive, anti-bias principles.
• Observe and analyze an early childhood education setting using indicators of best practices that support ALL children including those with diverse characteristics and families.
• Analyze the relationships between planning, delivery, observation and assessment in developing effective teaching strategies that foster learning and development.
