Psychopharmacology in MH Care

Course Description

Advanced concepts in pharmacogenomics, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics for targeted symptoms in the management of various psychiatric disorders. Management of symptoms for various populations and risk-mitigation strategies are presented for clinical problems in primary mental health settings. Use of psychopharmacologic agents with medical comorbidities. Patient adherence strategies examined.

Learning Outcomes

  • Examine the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of commonly prescribed psychopharmacologic agents used in the management of targeted psychiatric symptoms.
  • Compare and contrast the effectiveness of various psychopharmacologic agents on symptoms of psychiatric illness.
  • Analyze the factors that influence patient engagement and adherence to psychopharmacologic regimens.
  • Discuss ethical dilemmas, cultural considerations, bias, and conflicting data/report when prescribing psychopharmacotherapeutic agents.
