Inclusive ECE Practices

Course Description

Emphasis on variations in child development, identification of disabilities and the implications of cultural and linguistic diversity. Examines inclusive early childhood programs, strategies for adaptions and accommodations to meet the social, emotional, and academic needs of all children who are at-risk or have special needs.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply knowledge of characteristics of young children with developmental delays and disabilities with implications of cultural and linguistic diversity in ECE practice.
  • Analyze current philosophy and educational trends regarding the inclusion of young children with special needs in classrooms and natural settings.
  • Examine the legal rights of families and their children with special needs.
  • Examine the early childhood educators role as the member of a team in an inclusive classroom to include: least intrusive instructional adaptations and modifications, an ability to work with integrated Individual Education Plans (IEP) goals and maintain ethical and professional practices.
