Nevada Student Teaching M/M

Course Description

The student teaching experience requires candidates to be placed in a special education program that serves student with Mild/Moderate disabilities for 9 weeks or 40 days of full-day supervised teaching. Candidates are supervised/supported by a classroom teacher with a clear special education credential and by a certified University Supervisor. The course is graded satisfactory (S) or unsatisfactory (U).

  • INTASC STANDARD #9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice – engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.(NV TL: B VII)
  • INTASC STANDARD #10: Leadership and Collaboration – seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, and other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession. Requirements

Candidates are expected to be in the student teaching placement for the full six weeks for a minimum of 6 hours daily, or whatever is required at the teaching site. Candidates are required to submit 3 formal lesson plans during the 6 week experience to their University Support Provider 24 hours prior to the scheduled observation. Candidates are expected to prepare for and assume teaching responsibilities as assigned by the Site Support Provider throughout the six weeks of clinical practice. Candidates are expected to work closely with both the Site Support Provider and the University Support Provider to successfully complete all requirements for the clinical practice experience.
