Candidates will learn a wide variety of strategies to develop the literacy skills of deaf and hard of hearing learners, including skills in reading and writing English. Candidates will develop and implement lesson plans that reflect grade level State Standards for all areas of Language Arts.
- Design thematic content based curriculum and implement effective instructional strategies effectively in all aspects of ASL literacy (fingerspelling, signing, listening) and English literacy (reading, writing, speaking, listening) based on formal and authentic assessment information, including performance based objectives, aligned with state-adopted content standards.
- Demonstrate the ability to translate from visual language, including ASL to printed English or from printed English to a visual language.
- Demonstrate ability to adapt/modify general education Language Arts lesson plans to maximize deaf and hard of hearing students’ access to the core curriculum.
