This course will serve to provide an orientation to the requirements of National University in general (NU Catalog); the School Psychology program in particular (School Psychology Handbook); the expectations of a graduate level candidate, including demonstrating ‘Professional Dispositions;’ the importance of APA writing style; an overview of the profession of School Psychology (by reading current literature in the field); gaining an understanding of current issues in the field; and how both the education, training and practice of a School Psychologist differs from other professions that work with children, such as School Counselor, Special Education teacher, General Education Teacher, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, and Clinical Psychologist.
- Apply the expected ‘Professional Dispositions’ of a school psychology candidate.
- Compose an artifact of written expression, including adherence to APA (American Psychological Association) format.
- Compare and contrast the roles and activities of PPS (Pupil Personnel Services) in the schools, which includes School Psychologist, Educational Administrators, and School Counselors.
- Determine the advantages of professional associations associated with the School Psychologist profession at the local, state, and national levels.
- Explain the roles and activities of a School Psychologist in the schools as identified by the National Association of School Psychologist (NASP).
- Explain all National University (NU) catalog requirements specific to the School Psychology program.
- Explain the requirements and expectations of the School Psychology program as noted in the School Psychology Handbook.
