The Juvenile Offender

Course Description

A study of the nature and control of juvenile delinquency. Examines patterns of delinquent behavior, factors of causation, juvenile law and the juvenile justice system. Students also learn policies and procedures in treatment and prevention.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the history of the treatment of juveniles and juvenile offenders in our society.
  • Explain the nature and extent of juvenile delinquency.
  • Compare theories of the onset and continuation of delinquency.
  • Discuss the formation of youth gangs and their impact on society.
  • Explain the factors associated with female delinquency.
  • Discuss the role of law enforcement regarding juvenile offenders.
  • Critique the criminal justice processing of juvenile offenders.
  • Evaluate the rehabilitation of juvenile offenders.
  • Compare and contrast models for the prevention of juvenile delinquency.
