Poetry Writing II

Course Description

An intermediate workshop in poetry. Students will compose their own original poems and continue the study of the craft of poetry, focusing on the modern tradition.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify important developments and trends in contemporary poetry.
  • Analyze various forms of contemporary poetry.
  • Apply principles of poetic craft to the writing and revision of original compositions with increased sophistication.
  • Critique the creative work of others with increased sophistication.

Requirements

Produce (i.e., draft and revise) at least one poem per week. Provide constructive critical suggestions on peers’ work. A reflective paper regarding their application of craft principles and growth as a writer.
