This course studies the impact of country-specific cultural, economic and legal factors on the theory and practice of managing multinational corporations. Case studies focusing on North American, Latin American, European and Asian settings are used to illustrate the feasibility of adapting and combining different national management styles in the operations of domestic and multinational corporations.
- Discuss international, multinational and transnational corporations, and the factors that define these classifications.
- Demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages deriving from various corporate structures in cross-border operations.
- Compare the structure and management styles of multinational corporations based on their origin, objectives, capabilities, experience and cultural environment.
- Analyze the problems and trade-offs faced by corporations as they transition from one category to another while changing their management style accordingly.
