San Jose, Calif. – National University alumni Amanda Fried and Anne DiPalermo have been recognized as two of Santa Clara County’s finest teachers by the Santa Clara County Office of Education, at its 35th Annual Teacher Recognition Day.

Honorees were selected by their districts last September for the most prestigious local award given to the area’s classroom teachers. Santa Clara County’s recognition ceremony is the oldest and largest of its kind in California.

Ms. Fried, who earned her teaching credential from National University in 1994, works at Kennedy Middle School in the Cupertino School District. She serves as the sole counselor to 1,400 middle school students there, and also coaches volleyball and organizes student focus groups on school issues.

Ms. DiPalermo, who earned her teaching credential from National University in 1993, works at Dove Hill Elementary School in the Evergreen School District. She has achieved National Board Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). National Board Certification is considered a mark of teaching excellence throughout the United States.

Graduates and credential completers from National University’s School of Education are recognized as some of the best educators in California, based upon assessments by the National Blue Ribbon School competition, NBPTS certification, the California Distinguished School Program, and various Teacher of the Year competitions.

National University alumni have been named National Teacher of the Year (in 1994) and twice been named California Teacher of the Year (in 1994 and 2000), as well as California Principal of the Year (2003), Los Angeles Unified School District Teacher of the Year (2002) and Sacramento County Teacher of the Year (2003).  In the past 10 years, five National University alumni have been named San Diego County Teacher of the Year.
