2004-12-08 National University Listed by Hispanic Outlook in its Selection of Top Universities for Latinos

San Diego, Calif. – Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education has named National University among its “2004 Publisher’s Pick List” of the colleges and universities with the best record of recruiting, enabling and graduating Hispanic student in the United States.  The magazine’s picks were published in its November 29, 2004 edition.

“Bravo to all. All the institutions and all of you within them who are giving a high priority to student success,” wrote Hispanic Outlook publisher Jose Lopez-Isa, commending the 564 colleges and universities in 41 states that were named in his publication’s list.

Last spring, Hispanic Outlook ranked National University third in the nation in granting master’s degrees to Hispanics. National ranked first among California colleges and universities in the publication’s annual rankings for the fifth consecutive year by conferring a total of 402 master’s degrees to Hispanics during the 2001-2002 academic year. Hispanic Outlook’s annual rankings are based upon the latest data from the National Center for Education Statistics, which is generally two years old.

U.S. Census Bureau statistics reveal that approximately one third of all U.S. Hispanics reside in California, where their ranks have grown by 43 percent to more than 11 million people since 1990.  With academic centers located in 11 major metropolitan areas throughout California, National University is uniquely qualified to serve some of the state’s largest Hispanic communities. Its innovative evening-based, once-course-per-month format is frequently attributed to placing higher education within reach of a large and diverse population of working adults.
