American Bar Association (ABA) Approves National University Paralegal Studies Programs in Los Angeles and Sherman Oaks
March 25, 2008Los Angeles and Sherman Oaks, CA – The Paralegal Studies Programs offered at the Los Angeles and Sherman Oaks campuses at National University, the second largest, private, nonprofit university in California, have been approved by the American Bar Association (ABA).
The approval places National University in a select group of Southern California universities offering an ABA-approved Bachelor of Science degree in Paralegal Studies from an institution accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
National University's Paralegal Studies Programs provide a practical education, which enables students to understand and articulate legal theory and apply it ethically and efficiently to the legal profession. The Bachelor of Science degree, the Legal Assistant Certificate and the Paralegal Specialist Certificate are the three academic options the Paralegal Studies Programs offer.
The Bachelor of Science degree is offered by National University's College of Letters and Sciences. Students in the degree program are required to complete 17 paralegal studies courses and the remainder of the courses in general education and electives.
The Legal Assistant Certificate is tailored to include training in legal analysis, drafting of relevant legal documents and managing of procedural matters. The Paralegal Specialist Certificate requires students to complete nine paralegal studies courses. Both certificates offer six areas of specialization, including litigation, real estate, corporations, probate and estate planning, criminal law and family law.
When completing the National University's Paralegal Studies Programs, students will be able to demonstrate competency in legal terminology, understand the paralegal profession, comprehensively analyze legal issues and develop in-depth research skills for online computer programs and library usage.
Prospective students interested in learning more about National's paralegal programs are invited to an Open House on Wednesday April 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the University's Los Angeles campus located at 5245 Pacific Concourse Drive, Suite 100, Los Angeles, CA 90045-6905. Faculty and administration from the paralegal department will be available to take prospective students on a tour of the campus and law library and answer questions about the program.
