Required Exams

The Commission on Teacher Credentialing and National University require certain examinations of credential students.

Students in the Teacher Education Department must pass:

  • Subject matter competency (e.g. CSET) prior to methods courses.
  • Basic Skills Assessment (e.g. CBEST)  prior to methods courses.
  • The RICA exam prior to recommendation for Credential (Multiple Subject candidates only).

Students in Special Education must pass:

  • Subject matter competency (e.g. CSET) prior to scheduling specialization courses.
  • Basic Skills Assessment (e.g. CBEST) prior to scheduling specialization courses.
  • The National University generic core exam prior to scheduling specialization courses.
  • The ASLPI Gallaudet (DHH program only)
  • The RICA exam prior to recommendation for Credential. 
  • The National University exit exam prior to recommendation for Credential.

Students in all credential programs must demonstrate completion of a Basic Skills Assessment (e.g. CBEST).
