Veterans

Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success
National University features a physical center with services specifically for veteran students. National University’s Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success is staffed by Veteran Peer Mentors and professional staff members who are veterans themselves or possess extensive experience working alongside and assisting veterans and is located at the Spectrum campus in Kearny Mesa. The Center offers the following services for students who have served in the United States armed forces:

  • Career Development and Assistance
  • Academic Support
  • Social Media and Community Building
  • Health and Wellness Promotion

In addition, the Center offers a female veterans group, VA work study opportunities, new student orientations, veteran-specific orientation course to acclimate veterans to University life, and veteran-specific scholarship opportunities.

Adjusting to College and Non-Military Life:

Vet Centers are across the country, in each community, to help veterans who have served in a combat zone and family members with readjustment counseling and outreach services.

Disability Compensation: http://www.vba.va.gov/bln/vre/
Disability Compensation is a tax free monetary benefit paid to Veterans with disabilities that are the result of a disease or injury incurred or aggravated during active military service. Compensation may also be paid for post-service disabilities that are considered related or secondary to disabilities occurring in service and for disabilities presumed to be related to circumstances of military service, even though they may arise after service. Generally, the degrees of disability specified are also designed to compensate for considerable loss of working time from exacerbations or illnesses.

Funding for College for those with Service and non-Service Connected Injuries/Disabilities:

  • Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program (VR & E) http://www.vba.va.gov/bln/vre/ The Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) Program is authorized by Congress under Title 38, USC, Chapter 31 and Code of Federal Regulations, Part 21. It is sometimes referred to as the Chapter 31 program. This program assists Veterans with service-connected disabilities to prepare for, find, and keep suitable jobs. For Veterans with service-connected disabilities so severe that they cannot immediately consider work, this program offers services to improve their ability to live as independently as possible.

National University is grateful to those who have honorably served our country. The Veterans’ Victory Scholarship is designed to assist veteran students succeed in meeting their educational goals. The scholarship offers up to $5,000 for qualified students based on either academic or community achievement and financial need.
