Course Prerequisite(s):
Course Description: Provides an advanced foundation for the use of translational research and evidence-based clinical practice. Critical analysis, synthesis, and application of translational research models will be considered. Areas of emphasis include: (a) bridging the gap between scientific research and clinical practice, (b) evaluation of research findings for application in evidence based practice, (c) analytic approaches to translational research (including interdisciplinary models), and (d) examining the impact of translational research findings into practice.
Course Learning Outcomes:
  • Evaluate translational / evidenced- based models for their efficacy in disseminating and incorporating research findings into clinical practice.
  • Summarize the application of various translational research methodological approaches for changing practice.
  • Select strategies for applying translational/evidence based research to practice, in order to improve quality of care, patient care outcomes, and reduce healthcare costs.
  • Formulate appropriate statistical procedures for various translational/evidence based research designs.
  • Generate approaches for integrating evidencedandamp;#8211;based practice changes into an organizational structure.
Specified Program Learning Outcomes:
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice
    • Analyze the impact of national and global health policy on the cost, quality, and accessibility of health care for diverse patient populations.
    • Base decisions on synthesis of information from meta-analysis and other research reports, benchmark data, best practices reports, and other credible information sources.
    • Establish and lead collaborative, multidisciplinary teams that provide the range of expertise required in healthcare systems delivering care to complex, multi-need patients, families and communities.
    • Generate innovative practices, systems, and prevention programs at the patient, family, organization, community, and population levels for the purpose of improving health care outcomes.
    • Identify sources of variations in health care outcomes through analysis and integration of research findings, empirical evidence, and/or practitioner reflections on practice.
    • Lead healthcare systems in the delivery of high quality, safe, patient-centered care.
