Personal Information
Linda Travis Macomber joined the School of Health and Human Services as Adjunct Faculty in July 2009. In June 2010, she became an Assistant Professor at the Center for Technology and Health Sciences in San Diego. For over 25 years, Professor Macomber has specialized in clinical/nursing informatics, electronic health records (EHR), and the effective infusion of innovative technologies into clinical and nursing practice. She currently certifies EHR vendor systems nationally working with the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) and has chaired the prestigious Davies Award national committee for EHR Excellence. Coordinating health information technology initiatives from health care delivery, vendor, and national consulting firm perspectives, Professor Macomber has contributed to improving health care quality/health outcomes and reducing health care costs by providing better information to practitioners at the point of care. She has participated in patient care systems design, planning, selection, development, workflow, staff education, return on investment, and ongoing optimization. She has consulted at the initiation of large multi-stakeholder EHR programs for Kaiser Permanente and the Department of Defense, and has worked with many leading organizations in the field including SAIC, Healthlink, IBM, UCSD, Genentech, Perot Systems, National Institutes of Health, Midmark corporation, and Anvita Health. Professor Macomber began her career as an ICU nurse at The Children’s Hospital in Boston. She has since traveled extensively consulting and giving presentations across the United States, Hawaii, and internationally including Finland, Germany, France, South Africa, and Brazil.
