Course Prerequisite(s):
Course Description: A substantive project that demonstrates a synthesis of learning accumulated in each major. This is the first part of a two-part Engineering Senior Project sequence. Students will be working in teams of two to four students and doing research leading to preliminary development of the final project product.
Course Learning Outcomes:
  • Collaborate with team members and develop an initial project description for further development.
  • Function successfully in the team environment and develop project mission, vision, goals, bjectives, and concept development steps.
  • Define planning project strategy.
  • Design project framework.
  • Develop and present the project proposal.
Specified Program Learning Outcomes:
  • MAJOR IN CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY
    • Analyze structural systems.
    • Apply the principles of project management and control.
    • Demonstrate cost estimating and scheduling techniques.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of engineering science and mathematics and its application in problem solving.
    • Effectively communicate through written, verbal, and graphical media.
    • Recognize ethical issues and apply professional standards in decision-making.
    • Utilize appropriate computer tools for engineering problems.
    • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • MAJOR IN CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
    • Analyze structural system.
    • Apply construction accounting principles and analyze financial reports.
    • Apply modern methods for surveying and metrics.
    • Apply the principles of project management and control.
    • Assess conflict and identify resolution strategies.
    • Demonstrate cost estimating and scheduling techniques.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of engineering science and mathematics and its application in problem solving.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the legal aspects of construction contracting.
    • Effectively communicate through written, verbal, and graphical media.
    • Exhibit a fundamental understanding of building mechanical and electrical systems.
    • Integrate and apply field inspection techniques and safety standards.
    • Recognize ethical issues and apply professional standards in decision-making.
    • Utilize appropriate computer tools for engineering problems.
    • Work effectively in a team environment.
