ECE312 Infant and Toddler Care

Course Description

Focus is on infants and toddlers in group care settings. Emphasis is on close, caring relationships in the cultural context of the child and family, understanding developmental milestones, the identification of special needs, and current issues of health, safety and nutrition.

Learning Outcomes

  • Discuss the role of early childhood caregivers in supporting healthy, safe learning environments in the development of infants and toddlers.
  • Identify behaviors on the developmental domain continuum through knowledge of ages and stages in relation to varied abilities.
  • Discuss the brain and how it effects intelligence, physical motor skills, sensory stimulation, social-emotional and language development.
  • Explain the influence of diversity in creating relationships among families, staff and other professionals.
