Course Description
Examines the underlying theoretical principles of developmentally appropriate practices as they apply to Early Childhood Education programs/environments. Emphasis is on the key role of adult-child interactions and teaching strategies that support the development of all children. A review of the history of ECE and how, over time, it has evolved to include professional practices, advocacy, ethics and professional identity is included.
Learning Outcomes
- Identify the underlying theoretical perspectives of developmentally appropriate practices.
- Demonstrate understanding of best and promising early childhood teaching practices across delivery systems, program types, philosophy and relationships/ethics.
- Assess an early childhood education setting utilizing indicators of best practices that support ALL children including those with diverse characteristics and families.
- Analyze the relationships between planning, delivery, observation and assessment in developing effective teaching strategies that foster learning and development.
