EXC660A Field Study: Learners w/MM Dis

Course Description

Practical field activities designed to promote and supplement the course goals and outcomes of EXC 660. Students are encouraged to take this field study concurrently with EXC 660. Grading is S or U only.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply and extend the knowledge gained in EXC 660, Instruction of Learners with Mild/Moderate Disabilities.
  • Critique the lessons and units of instruction observed in the public schools.
  • Reflect upon and critique their structured interviews with teachers of culturally and linguistically diverse students with mild/moderate disabilities and integrate useful information into a unit of instruction prepared for EXC 660.
  • Critique sample public school policies and practices which address gender and lifestyle as they pertain to instruction of students with disabilities.
  • Identify and discuss curriculum and instruction resources that address sensitivity to race, class, gender, and disability.
  • Share the unit of instruction, lesson plans and performance measures (CBM) developed in EXC 660. Be sure to address how the instruction developed reflects access to the general curriculum and addresses the state standards for the content area selected.
  • Presentation of: Prepare an oral presentation of approximately 5 minutes of your unit of instruction. Include in your presentation General overview and goals of the unit Sample activities and materials Brief demonstration of one lesson, including handouts, materials, etc. Resources used to develop the unit Example of how you will measure student performance within the unit of instruction.Provide each class member with a copy of the lesson plan that you are presenting. Refer to the lesson plan outline in EXC 660.
