Course Description
Overview of the characteristics of M/M disabilities. Discusses the planning and evaluation of curriculum, methods, techniques, basic strategies, materials and media for teaching students with M/M disabilities. Emphasizes learning strategies, study skills, educational assessment, etc. as they relate to IEP.
Learning Outcomes
- Design instructional plans utilizing the scope and sequence of the California History-Social Science, Physical Education, and Visual and Performing Arts Public, and Mathematics and Science Frameworks.
- Use ongoing assessment information to select and modify instructional strategies, activities and materials that appeal to and challenge the diverse abilities and interests of students.
- Properly identify students' prior knowledge, select appropriate instructional objectives, and measure student growth.
- Demonstrate the ability to provide access to the curriculum commonly taught in public schools by adapting and relating curriculum to students' backgrounds, interests, and abilities.
- Develop a comprehensive unit of instruction appropriate for general education with clearly-stated goals, consisting of a series of lessons which depict appropriate adaptations for disabled students.
- Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum adaptations, instructional strategies, and critical presentation skills appropriate to the core curriculum and responsive to the individual student’s needs and characteristics.
- Design instruction that considers factors which affect all stages of development in the life of an individual with disabilities that assist in the recognition, planning for, and adjustment to transitional life issues for the individual and the family.
- Plan, prepare, and evaluate a weekly instructional plan integrating all content areas.
