Course Description

A field experience that orients students to all types of exceptionalities and service delivery options for special needs students served in general education settings. Emphasizes the roles of general education and special education teachers and parents. Grading is S or U only.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe education programs and service delivery alternatives available to students with special needs served in general education settings.
  • Describe basic strategies the general education teacher can utilize to enhance social skills training for disabled students.
  • Describe the roles of key personnel who provide support services to students with special needs in general education settings.
  • Explain the roles and functions of the school board in providing services to students with disabilities.
  • Compare and contrast the different types of service delivery models which are operable in elementary, middle school, and secondary schools.
  • Answer fundamental questions about the California Frameworks.
  • Explain various ways that special education and general education interface for the provision of services to students with disabilities.
  • Reflect upon their observations, interviews, and readings and make determinations about desirable and undesirable practices utilized for serving the special needs student in the general education setting.
