Course Description
An in-depth examination of the theories and practices involved in assessment, thematic and multiliteracy-curriculum design linking to State Standards will be applied. Contents include uses of diverse learning pedagogy, narratives, critical dialogue, and writings as well as developing expertise in interweaving students’ prior knowledge and intrinsic motivations with learning objectives.

- To describe the characteristics of deaf students and how they learn.
- To define curriculum.
- To delineate the career options for teachers of the deaf.
- To demonstrate knowledge of the various educational placement options.
- To connect instructional lessons to the appropriate California State Standard for the grade level that they have chosen.
- To demonstrate the ability to modify lessons to accommodate the needs of individual students.
- To write a performance based objective.
- To develop an authentic assessment.
- To plan to use instructional strategies, activities, and materials that appeal to and challenge diverse interests, utilize individual strengths, and accommodate various styles of communication and learning abilities and styles.
- To describe a variety of classroom management techniques that promotes positive student behavior and encourages active student participation.
- To describe a variety of techniques to motivate student interest in a variety of ways including the selection of meaningful curricula and activities.
- To examine classroom practices, instructional strategies, technologies, and materials that promote educational achievement of deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
- To develop a unit plan of study in the major content areas that meets the needs of a variety of learners.
