Course Description
In this two-month course, candidates of learners who are DHH will learn about various strategies for developing ASL-English literacy, storytelling, reading for meaning and writing. Students will link ASL-English language planning framework and State Standards to the development of lesson plans for all parts of the literacy block.

- Understand theory and research linked to practice.
- Understand principles of 2nd and dual language acquisition and learning.
- Plan and use instructional strategies effectively in all aspects of literacy.
- Develop modify and implement instruction based on assessment information aligned with state-adopted academic standards for Language Arts and Reading.
- Develop and implement effective lesson plans incorporating all aspects of literacy.
- Examine classroom practices, instructional strategies, technologies and materials that promote achievement in literacy.
- Plan and use instructional strategies, activities, and materials that appeal to and challenge diverse interests, utilize individual strengths, promote independent reading and writing as well as to accommodate various styles of communication and learning.
- Use language and literacy teaching strategies and curriculum materials effectively with students whose primary language is other than English.
