Course Description
Analysis of curriculum development and methods of aligning standards, instruction, and assessment. An instructional leader's perspective on instructional
theory, curriculum development, and curriculum
design methods aligning course content to articulated
goals. Aligning valid and reliable assessment to
the evaluation of the instructional program.
Learning Outcomes
- Promote and maintain high expectations for the academic achievement of all participants in all contexts.
- Modify instruction and instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Describe the components of curriculum alignment in terms of standards, assessment, and instruction, and use them with skill in backwards mapped lessons and instructional design.
- Explain the relationship between norm-referenced and criterion referenced tests, between state-mandated and local assessments, and systematic formative and summative assessments.
- Design assessment instruments such as observational evidence and performance tasks, and varied written assessments. Administer and score assessments accurately and with attention to honest and ethical conduct.
- Analyze the value to lessons of rubrics/scoring guides, benchmarks, and anchor papers.
