Course Description

This course focuses on numerous aspects of interviewing for print, radio and television journalism and the variety of ways in which professional interviewers go about their work. It also includes an historical perspective of the development of interview techniques for various news media. Students will learn how to select an interview subject, prepare for an interview, conduct the interview and write an article based on their interview.

  • Identify the different styles and techniques used in interviews for print, radio and television
  • Describe the development of interviewing techniques in print, radio and television media
  • Identify the components of an interview based project
  • Identify appropriate interviewees to meet project goals
  • Schedule and conduct an interview to meet project goals
  • Generate appropriate interview questions
  • Apply note-taking skills and/or use of recording equipment in interview
  • Organize and shape material from interview into a finished project
